Introduction

This journey is designed for women who want to experience Iceland actively — but don’t need an extreme expedition to do it.

Over six memorable days, you’ll blend scenic sightseeing at Iceland’s most iconic natural wonders with meaningful time on the trail. This trip includes two rewarding hikes of 5–7 miles, along with several days exploring waterfalls, geothermal areas, glaciers, and dramatic coastal landscapes without long or strenuous trekking every day.

You’ll walk through a tectonic rift valley, stand beside erupting hot springs, feel the mist of powerful waterfalls, step onto ancient glacier ice with expert guides, and soak in geothermal waters warmed by the earth itself — including a chance to bathe in a naturally heated river in the wild after a scenic hike. You’ll also unwind at Sky Lagoon, Iceland’s stunning oceanside geothermal spa, where warm water, sea views, and Nordic spa traditions offer a deeply relaxing finale.

It’s an ideal introduction to Iceland for first-time visitors and a perfect return for those who have already fallen in love with the country and want more time immersed in its landscapes. With a thoughtful pace, efficient routing, and a mix of activity and sightseeing, this itinerary is also a great fit for travelers with limited time or a set budget who still want a rich, nature-filled experience.

Every detail is handled — from welcoming hotels to included meals and expert guides — so you can focus on being present, moving your body, and taking in the raw beauty of this remarkable island.

Can I do this? This tour is rated Moderate. The challenge will be uneven terrain. The longest trek will be 6-7 miles roundtrip with about 1,000ft elevation gain. Altitude is not an issue.

Nesjavellir Geothermal Landscape Hike

Today we explore one of Iceland’s most fascinating geothermal landscapes on foot near Lake Þingvallavatn in southwest Iceland.

Our hike takes us into the volcanic Hengill region, where the Earth’s energy is visible all around us. We’ll walk through rugged lava fields dotted with steaming fumaroles, bubbling vents, and streaks of vivid mineral colors painting the sulfur-rich ground. The terrain here feels alive — warm earth, drifting steam, and the scent of geothermal activity remind us that Iceland is still very much in the making.

This accessible yet dramatic landscape sits directly on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where tectonic plates slowly pull apart beneath our feet. Along the way, we’ll learn how this powerful geology shapes the land and supports Iceland’s renewable energy, including the nearby Nesjavellir Geothermal Power Station, which provides hot water and electricity to the capital region.

The combination of volcanic scenery, open vistas, and geothermal features makes this a uniquely Icelandic hiking experience — wild, raw, and unforgettable.

After our hike, we return to the countryside hotel for dinner and a relaxing evening soaking in hot tubs.
