About this trip

Grab your safari hat, binoculars and don’t forget your camera because your friends are not going to believe your stories on this African Safari in Uganda!

Straight out of the pages of a National Geographic Magazine, Uganda offers intrepid travelers a chance to live like an explorer. This epic journey is a combination of observational game drives through wildlife parks, and on-the-ground up-close encounters with some of the world’s most endangered animals like rhinos and, Chimpanzees, and  Mountain Gorillas.

The adventure begins in Entebbe and follows a game circuit north, west, and returns south to Entebbe. We will explore wooded savannas, grasslands, tributaries of the Nile River, and mountain tropical cloud forest. Lodges are 4-star with delicious food and comfortable accommodations.

More off-the-beaten than more popular East Africa countries, Uganda is known for its friendly people, and high concentrations of animals in smaller game reserves. You will see the iconic animals of Africa, but the primates are the highlight of this safari! The grand finale is a ranger-led small group trek into the home of highly endangered wild Mountain Gorillas & Chimpanzees.
This active educational travel adventure is for any healthy adult from beginner to seasoned traveler. All skill levels welcome. No experience necessary. Anyone age 18+ welcome.

Trip Highlights:

  • Walk with the last rhinos in Uganda in their natural habitat.
  • Experience spectacular game drives in Uganda’s National Parks full of amazing mammals, reptiles, and birds!
  • Go Big! Photograph the largest mammals: elephants, giraffes, cape buffalo, and hippos in the wild.
  • Get close to our closest genetic animal relative, on a chimpanzee tracking expedition in the Kimbale National Forest.
  • Stay at lodges in beautiful locations near national parks and in the country-side.
  • See tree-climbing lions of Ishasha in Queen Elizabeth Nation Park.
  • Life-changing up close encounters with endangered mountain gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

A note about physical fitness

No experience is necessary. For trekking, participants should be healthy, know their limits, and be able to walk 4-6 miles on rolling and uneven terrain which could be steep and slippery depending on the conditions. Hiking trails for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking vary from easy, medium, and strenuous. Trails assignments are based on the participants’ abilities, but subject to park rangers’ authority and number of trekkers that day.  During gorilla trekking, each participant has a porter who will carry his/her day pack, and always there to lend a helping hand. If you have concerns about hiking, please contact us to discuss.

LODGING

We stay at a variety of eco-lodges on the edge of the parks and protected areas. Each lodge is modest, clean, and the staff are friendly. Accommodations are surrounded by beautiful scenery and sometimes animals come through the property. All will have hot water, and solar electricity or generators for power. From luxury accommodations to economical properties, they are at the mercy of a 3rd world infrastructure and the fates. Your packing list will include a headlamp and wet wipes for the possible chance that you could be without running water or electricity for a night. During a visit in 2018, there was one night where there wasn’t hot water or electricity in our  cabins. We did have cold bottled water, a delicious meal, and hippos talking to each other while grazing in the yard that night. It was worth the trade off.

Here is a list of scheduled locations. These are subject to change and can be substituted for similar accommodations.

East Greenland is my favorite adventure so far! I will definitely sign up for this trip again. The adventure includes pristine mountains, glaciers, fjords, and remote Inuit villages. This trip should be on every nature lovers bucket list. We experienced spectacular weather making all of the activities enjoyable. Worth every penny!

I just returned from a spectacular Green Edventures Iceland Mindfulness & Multi-Sport Women’s trip in June/July. This was my ninth trip with Green Edventures ... and it did not disappoint! Our trip leader, Emily, was wonderful as was our local guide/driver, Thora. Both are caring, personable and fun and do their best to make it a great trip for everyone! I just can’t say enough about the great itinerary. Iceland has so much to offer and this trip had a nice variety of things we did and places we saw including: many beautiful waterfalls, horseback riding, kayaking, hot springs/pools & cold plunges, churches, hiking trails, morning yoga, seals, puffins, eagles, birds/ducks, volcanic caters, snorkeling the Silfra Fissure, geysirs, Fridheimar Tomato Greenhouse/Lunch, local markets, glaciers, icebergs, Black Beach, basalt columns, sea stacks, Blue Lagoon and ice cream! We were blessed with great weather as well, but were prepared with our rain gear if needed! Our accommodations were all comfortable and unique with everything we needed. Our group was fantastic and there was lots of laughing! It was a perfect get away from everything at home for a short while to recharge and enjoy everything Iceland! I’d highly recommend any Green Edventures trips to anyone. Whether you are a solo traveler or have someone to travel with, this is the perfect solution! I’ve made many new friends on each trip I go on. All the GE trips are well-organized and well-planned. Iceland is a beautiful country!

I had a great time participating in the Iceland Women's Mindfulness and Multisport activity. The other travelers were nice, friendly and easy to get along with. The leader Emily was wonderful, well informed, familiar with the sites we visited and conversant. The guide Thora was best. She was knowledgeable, eager and proud to share her country with us. The itinerary was well thought out and executed. Mornings started with yoga followed by a different activity daily. We saw popular sites, hiked and saw so many waterfalls. Ninety percent of the activities were new to me and I succeeded in them all. We had plenty of access to thermal pools to rest our weary bodies at the end of the day. Accommodations were standard and food was plentiful.

I would highly recommend Green Edventures for this adventure, from superior staff, to well thought out planning. Everything fell in to place nicely. We did the 11 day Northern Curcuit, followed by a Safari with Mantangos Expeditions. I can’t say enough about the passion the crew has for their work, totally enjoyable and Ibwill never forget this adventure. Thank you to all the staff. Momma Zanzibar, aka Terri Cole.

Working with Green Edventures has been an incredible experience. Their Iceland Knitting Tours for women are the perfect blend of culture, creativity, and community. As someone who has seen firsthand how these tours bring women together, it’s clear that the tours are much more than just a knitting experience. They foster deep connections with local artisans, allow participants to engage with Iceland’s beautiful landscapes, and truly embrace the collaborative spirit of knitting. Tara Short and her team make every effort to ensure a sustainable, educational, and enriching journey, leaving every traveler with not only a new skill but also lasting memories. Highly recommended!

I went on an amazing trip with Tara to Baja, Mexico in 2020. This was a dream trip for me being a wildlife lover. It was incredible to be able to swim with whale sharks and sea lions and get up close with gray whales. Camping on the beach was amazing. We had a great group of women and everyone vibed well and all of the tour guides including Tara, Alex and Chabello were so fun, friendly and helpful every step of the way. The food was great at the campsite and at the restaurants we got to try. When our trip plans initially got derailed waiting on a negative Covid test and we had to get a different flight, Tara did everything in her power to accommodate us and make sure we got to enjoy every part of the trip, including setting us up with another whale shark swimming tour after we had missed the initial one with the group, and she spent time waiting for us to finish before leaving for the airport. I definitely recommend Green Edventures, especially the Baja Mexico trip!

I just returned from the Wisconsin Women's Tour and couldn't have asked for a better trip! For me, the amount and type of activity were perfect. Who know there was so much to discover practically in my own backyard?
