About this trip

Join us in Iceland on our Iceland Women’s Hot Springs & Mindfulness Retreat for a magical journey across North Iceland’s winter wonderland. Let Earth’s energy, applied grounding techniques, celestial forces, and connection with others in nature rejuvenate, and restore your inner harmony and balance.

Explore Iceland’s lesser-traveled Arctic coast discovering hot springs, community pools, and nature spas while connecting with local wellness experts on our women's Hot Springs & Mindfulness Wellness Retreat. Through guided mindfulness activities, flotation therapy, sound bathing, and even an Arctic Ocean swim, you’ll return home with more than memories — you’ll gain a renewed sense of inner harmony and balance.

Clear your mind and unwind in deep relaxation via floatation therapy, and sound bathing. Both of these methods can help you achieve theta state, or dream state, where your deepest learning and imaginative process exist.

Believe in magic! Meet a fortune teller who will use runes to tell you about your future and we will see how cosmic forces unfold during the trip together. Stand under a night sky (or maybe soak in a hot tub) and watch the northern lights dance overhead. and feel connected to something greater than yourself.

For those who are up for it, learn how Icelanders uses both hot and cold bathing for wellness. Your guide will teach you how deep breathing and mindfulness can get over your fear of cold water. -- Maybe you will even swim in the arctic sea?

Iceland is one of the most beautiful places on Earth and amid a backdrop of mountains, glacier-swept valleys, powerful cascading waterfalls, and black sand beaches is the perfect place to let nature inspire your sense of wonder and creativity during our Women's Iceland Hot Springs and Mindfulness Retreat.

In Iceland,  it is easy to disconnect with the world, and to connect with yourself in the present, the only moment that really matters.

Preparation: None

A note about hot springs & pool culture:

In Iceland, it is required to shower without a swimsuit before entering hot springs or pools. This ensures the water remains clean for everyone, as chemicals are not typically used. All commercial hot springs have gender-specific changing areas; some offer private shower stalls, while others have open showers, similar to a women’s gym locker room. We understand this may feel unfamiliar, but most people adjust quickly and find the environment to be welcoming and nonjudgmental. If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us—we’re here to help.

Reflection & Clarity

Flights arrive at Keflavik International Airport. Your guide will be waiting for you at 8:00am. From here the adventure begins! ***

Just as water can reflect the surrounding environment, grounding mindfulness can help you reflect on your thoughts and feelings, and bring clarity to your inner state. Water provides a rich sensory experience. When you focus on the sensation of water, whether it's touching, hearing, or observing it, you can anchor your mindfulness in the present moment, which is a core aspect of grounding.

Morning: We have a group session in Reykjavik with Svava Brooks. Svava is a Reiki Master, Meditations and & Trauma Recovery Specialist.  Svava will teach us methods for grounding ourselves, and give insight on how we can heal our bodies from within.  She will help us set the ground rules and intensions for creating our safe space throughout the tour.

Afternoon: We drive out of town to the beautiful fjord of Hvalfjörður for our first hot springs experience. Here, where the mountains hug the sea, you can practice your grounding skills and sensory awareness while soaking in the different temperature pools.

Overnight near Borgarnes at Country Hotel Hraunsnef or similar.  Enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel.

Meals: D

*** Participants may want to come in a day early to acclimate before the start of the tour. Details will be provided including pick up time from the rendezvous hotel.

Day 2

Day 2 image

Breath & Blessings

The rhythmic and repetitive nature of waves and tides at the sea can serve as an anchor for grounding techniques. You can synchronize your breath or movements with natural rhythms of the sea to enhance your mindfulness practice.

Morning: Experience the local culture at the Blondös community pool. The pool has a sauna, hot tubs, and a cold plunge, that is colder than the sea! Inga will teach you breathing techniques to help you relax and embrace cold water. These techniques will get you ready for your swim on the beach in the Arctic Ocean.

Lunch stop on the way to Spákonuarfur, at The Museum of Prophecies, about Þórdísi, a woman who was a fortune teller from the 10th century that lived at Skagaströnd. She moved to Skagaströnd to get away from people and wasn’t averse to using the dark arts to keep locals away from her prime grazing land.  We will learn about her life and get our own personal 5 minute readings told in the old Icelandic way.

Late Afternoon: We will stroll along the shore of the arctic ocean on a beautiful wild beach. While the tide laps against the black sand, participants will practice heart connection and breathing techniques and that have positive effects on the mind, body, and spirit.

Overnight and dinner at Sigló Hótel.

Day 3

Transition & Transformation

Achieving balance in life involves periods of transition and transformation, during which people can reassess their priorities, and make adjustments for greater equilibrium.

Pre-breakfast

Meet together for mediation and light stretching.

Morning:  Floatation therapy in one of the first pulblic swimming pools in Iceland. A floatation therapist will put floats on your legs and head and help you get into a relaxing horizontal position. Then, she will cover your eyes with a weighted mask, and your body with a blanket. Feeling weightless, and covering the eyes reduces the work load of the brain. You will float like a feather in warm water and with cool mountain air will fill your lungs. Your therapist will manipulate your body with water and gentle movements. that stretch your back and muscles, but also stimulates a meditative state.

Afternoon: Our guide will take us on a walking tour of this charming coastal town of Siglufjörður. She will teach us about its old herring history, the museum, harbor and beautiful old houses. There will be a stop a the local brewery for a beer tasting and tour.

After dinner:

Use infra red saunas or soak in the hot tubs surrounded by white mountains and colorful buildings. Gaze at the sky for northern lights.

Overnight at Sigló Hótel.

Day 4

Day 4 image

Light & Love

Increased light, whether it be literal or metaphorical, can illuminate and enhance positive emotions, foster connections, and create a sense of warmth, all which nourish the ecosystem for love to thrive.

Pre-breakfast

Meet together for mediation and light stretching.

Morning: Drive along the coastal towns of the longest fjord of the north, Eyjafjördur. We will stop in the small town of Hauganes and take a soak into the hot tubs at the black beach. For those who up for it, we can take a dip or swim in the arctic sea.

Hauganes has the only accessible sandy-beach in North Iceland that faces the sun in the south. Because it is very shallow far out, the black sand heats the ocean on sunny days so the Atlantic ocean even feels comfortable. There are hot tubs with geothermal water from the village. It is a magical place to relax whether on sunny days in June, or cold winter days, listening to the ocean and the birds and enjoying the magnificent ocean and mountain view.

Afternoon: After feeling relaxed and rejuvenated from the hot tubs and swimming in the sea, we head toward our hotel in Akureyri. Stop for dinner and shopping in Iceland's capital of the north.

Evening arrive at our country hotel on a fjord with a panoramic view. Take advantage of the sauna, gaze at the sky for northern lights, or socialize in the spacious and comfortable solarium.

Overnight:  Overnight at Hotel Natur or similar.

Meals: B

Resonate & Rise

Everything in the universe carries its own vibration—woven into a vast cosmic tapestry where energy, sound, and nature shape our physical and spiritual well-being. Today is about attunement: listening deeply, releasing gently, and rising renewed.

Morning:
We journey into the Akureyri countryside for an unique healing experience of the retreat—an intimate, 2-hour sound bathing session in a yurt led by Sólveig. Resting on soft mattresses and wrapped in warm blankets, each woman receives a light head massage using pure organic essential oils before being guided into deep relaxation through Yoga Nidra. Gongs, singing bowls, and other instruments create layered soundscapes that support chakra alignment, nervous system regulation, and emotional release—allowing each participant to experience her own visions, insights, and connection to the cosmos.

Afterward, we gather at Sólveig’s home for a nourishing, homemade vegan lunch prepared and shared in her kitchen—a moment of grounding, warmth, and community.

Afternoon:
We continue our integration at Forest Lagoon, a serene geothermal spa tucked into a birch forest overlooking Eyjafjörður. Here, warm mineral-rich waters, soft steam, and panoramic fjord views invite you to soak slowly and intentionally. The contrast of heat, fresh Arctic air, and quiet forest energy supports circulation, relaxation, and reflection—offering space to embody the healing work of the morning and gently anchor your intentions.

Evening:
We gather in the solarium for reflection, discussion, and connection—sharing insights, gratitude, and the subtle shifts that surfaced throughout the day.

Overnight: Hotel Natur or similar
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

Day 6:

Day 6: image

Trusting Your Inner Compass

Today is an invitation to turn inward and listen more closely—to the quiet signals of the body, the wisdom carried by place, and the inner knowing that often speaks before words. Through heat and cold, story and stillness, this day is about practicing trust: trusting sensation over certainty, intuition over explanation, and your own inner compass as a guide forward.

Morning: Intuition & Renewal — The Icelandic Sauna Way
Begin the day by listening inward through a guided Icelandic-style sauna ceremony rooted in rhythm, breath, and presence. Led by a trained sauna master, you’ll move through multiple rounds of gentle steam, aromatherapy, and intentional cooling—whether in crisp air or fresh water—allowing your body to guide the experience. Music, ritual, and rest invite you to slow down, clear mental noise, and reconnect with your natural inner compass through sensation rather than thought.

Midday: Journey Through Story & Energy
We travel east along a scenic route toward Reykjavík, pausing at a powerful historic site featured in Burial Rites, the location of Iceland’s last public execution. This is a place of deep historical gravity and energetic resonance, where—according to local lore—a psychic medium once channeled Agnes Magnúsdóttir, revealing the long-lost resting place of her remains. Here, we reflect on intuition across time—how people, stories, and landscapes hold memory and truth.

Overnight: Hotel Hamar or similar
Meals: Breakfast

Day 7

Day 7 image

Sealing the Journey with Water & Gratitude

As our Iceland journey gently comes full circle, we close with a ritual of reflection, intention, and self-care. Together, we pause to honor the connections formed, the insights gained, and the quiet inner shifts that unfolded along the way with a deeply restorative visit to Sky Lagoon.

Set against sweeping views of the North Atlantic, this final experience invites you to soak, breathe, and integrate all that you’ve gathered on this mindfulness journey. During your time at the lagoon, you’ll move through the Seven Steps Ritual—a flowing sequence of warmth, cool, steam, and renewal designed to clear the mind, relax the body, and support intention-setting as you prepare to return home.

Thoughtfully appointed amenities make this a seamless transition from retreat space to travel mode, leaving you grounded, refreshed, and aligned with what comes next.

Afterward, we transfer together to Keflavík Airport, arriving around 1:45 PM. Please schedule departing flights for after 4:45 PM to allow ample time for check-in and security.

Included Meals: Breakfast

Tara Short

Your Trip Leader Tara Short.  Tara experienced the magic of north Iceland's nature spas and even got past her own cold fears when she swam in the arctic sea thanks to the methods taught to her by Inga. She feels that everyone needs to immerse themselves in the Icelandic bathing culture which provides a soft and slow way to explore Iceland, and has the healing benefits of relaxation while fostering joy, creativity, and wonder.

Tara fell in love with Iceland in May 2017 after her first visit to the tiny island of fire and ice. Since then, Tara spends at least a month in Iceland each summer and is always dreaming of new ways to help people experience it.

Iceland wrapped its hands around her heart and inspired itineraries that evolved as Tara became more and more familiar with the people and places of Iceland. It started with multi-sport tours that sampled a variety of outdoor adventures, to multi-day thru hiking in the southern highlands, and then onto softer adventures including a knitting retreat, and this nature spa retreat.

Tara is the Founder & CEO of Green Edventures Tours and your First Adventure Buddy! She has been a guide for over 20 years from Africa to the Caribbean, from Galapagos, to Iceland, and many places in between.

She has a B.S Natural Resource Management with an emphasis in Environmental Education / Interpretation. She is also Wilderness First Aid & CPR Certified. Tara lives in Chicago with her partner Kelly, and their two dogs.
