Join Green Edventures for the ultimate adrenaline rush and swim with the largest predators on Earth!
Not to be confused with the Dominican Republic, Dominica is a small island country located in the eastern Caribbean’s Lesser Antilles archipelago. Nicknamed the “Nature Island of the Caribbean” due to its lush mountainous rainforest, natural hot springs, and rare flora and fauna, this beautiful island is still largely undiscovered and off the beaten track to common tourists. For the first time, Green Edventures is offering a small number of participants an unforgettable land and sea adventure to explore this incredible island!
Overview:
Leave the cold at home and spend 5 days on the water basking in the Caribbean sun while searching for Dominica’s most famous local residents - pods of sperm whales! Not only will you have a chance to swim with the largest predators on Earth, you will also snorkel amongst colorful fish on one of Dominica’s beautiful coral reefs.
Above the waterline, you will explore the island’s stunning volcanic landscapes as you hike to jungle waterfalls, soak in a natural hot spring, and swim through a mountain gorge to reach an emerald pool.

Participants should be prepared for swimming in the open ocean in 6K feet of water in variable conditions when there are whales present.
We will be on the boat for 6 hours a day, so it is important that you remain aware of your own physical limits, and take time to sit out of a swim if necessary.
There are no ladders on the boat, You must have sufficient arm strength to pull yourself up on the back platform of the boat.
Although there are at least 200 sperm whales that live year round in Dominica’s waters, their territory is vast, and they are capable of diving over 9,000 feet for 90 minutes at a time. The probably is high that you will get in the water with whales is good, but it cannot be guaranteed.
Our captain and guide will use their expert knowledge to locate the whales, but there will be long periods of time when we may not see anything. There is also a chance of finding a pod of whales that decide that they have other plans and choose not to come close. Our guides will never give up the search for whales that are comfortable with our presence in their world though, and you never know what kind of life-changing experience you may have.

Activity: Enjoy an early breakfast at the hotel before embarking on a 6 hour quest to snorkel with sperm whales. The ocean, and the wildlife within, are unpredictable, but there is also a chance of encountering false killer whales, pilot whales, and dolphins.
Activity: After spending the morning on the water, we will have time for a short break at the hotel before it’s time to venture inland. You will have a chance to take in the island’s unbridled scenery on our drive to the rainforest. Our first stop is a visit to a hidden waterfall that is only accessible by swimming through a breathtaking canyon. Next, it’s time to relax and rejuvenate as you soak in one of Dominica’s natural hot springs.
Activity: Our quest to snorkel with sperm whales continues as we meet our boat captain and expert guide, with hydrophone in hand, for our last 2 days on the water.
Activity: After breakfast, we will head to Champagne Reef. This reef is one of the best snorkel destinations in the Caribbean and gets its name from the bubbles that come up through the seafloor from the volcanically active thermal spring underneath. We will return to the hotel to dry off before we head to the extreme tip of the island for lunch. Next, we will travel to a UNESCO World Hertitage Site and take a short scenic walk for a panoramic view of Dominica’s famed twin falls.
