This journey is designed for women who want to experience Iceland actively — but don’t need an extreme expedition to do it.
Over six memorable days, you’ll blend scenic sightseeing at Iceland’s most iconic natural wonders with meaningful time on the trail. This trip includes two rewarding hikes of 5–7 miles, along with several days exploring waterfalls, geothermal areas, glaciers, and dramatic coastal landscapes without long or strenuous trekking every day.
You’ll walk through a tectonic rift valley, stand beside erupting hot springs, feel the mist of powerful waterfalls, step onto ancient glacier ice with expert guides, and soak in geothermal waters warmed by the earth itself — including a chance to bathe in a naturally heated river in the wild after a scenic hike. You’ll also unwind at Sky Lagoon, Iceland’s stunning oceanside geothermal spa, where warm water, sea views, and Nordic spa traditions offer a deeply relaxing finale.
It’s an ideal introduction to Iceland for first-time visitors and a perfect return for those who have already fallen in love with the country and want more time immersed in its landscapes. With a thoughtful pace, efficient routing, and a mix of activity and sightseeing, this itinerary is also a great fit for travelers with limited time or a set budget who still want a rich, nature-filled experience.
Every detail is handled — from welcoming hotels to included meals and expert guides — so you can focus on being present, moving your body, and taking in the raw beauty of this remarkable island.

Our adventure begins with a scenic superbus ride deep into the Highlands, crossing dramatic landscapes shaped by volcanic forces. Pass bubbling hot springs, lava fields, and the infamous Mount Hekla, Iceland’s most active volcano. The offroad adventure requires the superbus to traverse gravel roads and cross a couple of glacier rivers to get to the Landmannalauger.
Arriving at Landmannalaugar, we enjoy lunch before starting our trek. Bring your bathing suit and soak in hot spring before we head off on the trek. The trail begins with a surreal landscape of black lava flows and brightly colored rhyolite hills. We climb steadily past steaming sulfur vents, marveling at the geothermal activity that heats the hot springs below. As we ascend, the views grow more spectacular, revealing the vast wilderness of Fjallabak Nature Reserve.
As we ascend a little higher, the colorful landscape turns black and white. The terrain levels out and we hike across obsidian fields and snowy trails. We will reach our first mountain hut by late afternoon.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Overnight: Hrafntinnusker Mountain Hut
Today’s trek is a feast for the senses. We descend into the canyon systems south of Hrafntinnusker, weaving through steaming vents, bubbling mud pools, and patches of lingering snow. The dramatic contrasts of black volcanic sand and vibrant green moss create a striking landscape.
As we navigate the Jökultungur (glacier tongue) ridges, breathtaking views of the volcanic plains and distant glaciers unfold. Descending toward Álftavatn (Swan Lake), the serene beauty of this remote glacial lake welcomes us. Surrounded by rugged green mountains, it’s one of the most picturesque spots on the trail.

Prepare for a day of contrasts as we traverse glacial streams and rivers (some forded on foot). The hike leads us through the lush oasis of Hvanngil, a green respite amidst the stark highlands.
Crossing the expansive black sand desert of Mælifellssandur, we pass the striking cone-shaped green peak of Stórasúla volcano. The trail continues toward Hattfell, an ancient volcano, before arriving at Emstrur. A detour takes us to the dramatic Markarfljót Canyon, carved by powerful glacial floods and plunging nearly 200 meters (656 feet) into the earth.
Distance: 16 km (10 miles) | Active Walking Time: 6-7 hours | Elevation Loss: 40 m (130 ft)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Overnight: Botnar Mountain Hut
Today’s trek takes us through one of Iceland’s most iconic landscapes. We cross two rivers, hike along the edge of Markarfljót Canyon, and descend into the lush, green valley of Þórsmörk, named after the Norse god Thor.
For the first time, the trail is surrounded by fairytale vegetation, including birch forests and delicate arctic flowers. The beauty intensifies as we approach the heart of Þórsmörk, with its glacier-capped peaks and fast-flowing rivers creating a natural amphitheater. After arriving at the mountain hut, we enjoy an evening of celebration and reflection on our incredible journey together in the highlands.

Before concluding your Icelandic adventure, immerse yourself in the spirit of Viking bathing culture at the Sky Lagoon. This luxurious spa embodies ancient Nordic traditions, offering a seven-step ritual inspired by Iceland’s bathing heritage. Begin with a refreshing cold plunge, invigorating the body as Vikings once did, before moving through warm pools, a rejuvenating sauna, and the tranquil infinity lagoon overlooking the vast Atlantic Ocean.
The experience connects you to the natural elements that shaped the lives of Viking settlers, providing a moment of reflection on your journey along their historic paths.
Afterward, we transfer to Keflavik Airport for your return flight, bringing home memories of an epic expedition through Viking trails and Iceland’s untamed wilderness.
