About this trip

Iceland Women's Laugavegur Hike  is a 40ish-mile thru-hike from the hot springs of Landmannalauger to the lush green forests of Thorsmork in the highlands of southern Iceland! You may never be able to pronounce the name, but the adventure will be unforgettable.

Iceland Women's Laugavegur Hike is a 40-ish mile hike over 5 days across extreme environments of the southern highlands, to the forested valley of  Þórsmörk (thorsmork).

The landscape is so varied and other worldly, you just might think you were on another planet.

Traverse rainbow, rhyolite mountains down into steaming geothermal areas that give way to bubbling mud pools surrounded by vibrant green lime colored moss. Trek through valleys of obsidian (Dragon Glass to all you Game of Thrones fans), and walk over snow, ford glacial rivers, and across an expansive lava sand desert.

Be rewarded with the feeling of accomplishment on our Iceland Women's Laugavegur Hike knowing that you achieved your goal each day! Celebrate and laugh with your adventure buddies as you sit around the table at night sharing homemade meals, and your stories at the end of each day on our Iceland Women's Laugavegur Hike.

Oh, friend….there will be stories on this epic Iceland Women's Laugavegur Hike.

All of the planning has been done for you. This trip is fully supported with pre-trip preparation and a detailed packing list. Carry only a day pack with personal gear. Hot breakfast and dinners are prepared at mountain huts each night. Luggage is transferred between huts for you. The trail  is challenging, but not impossible or technical. All you need for are to invest in a few pieces of good personal gear such as: gortex rain jacket and pants, trekking poles, hiking boots, back pack, non-cotton base layers.

Who should sign up for our Iceland Women's Laugavegur Hike ?

You must love hiking and you must be confident that you can get yourself from point A to point B each day on your own two feet. This trip is open to women who do not have any experience thru-hiking. Some mountain hiking experience carrying a backpack is recommended in various weather conditions, and you must be an active person, willing to prepare your body for the experience.

We walk 6-7 hours per day, or about 7-10 miles. Maximum elevation is 3,400 ft and is covered within the first two days of hiking. The third day is rolling with short, steep climbs. The final stretch is mostly flat with little elevation gain. The fifth day is hiking the trails around Thorsmork. The trails are foot paths with loose gravel, rocks, sand, mud, and possibly snow.. Total accumulative elevation for the hike is 6000ft over 5 days.

READY FOR ADVENTURE!

This is a challenging trip but not impossible. The varied terrain (loose gravel, dirt, mud, snow) steep ascents and decents, combined with the varied weather make this hike moderate to strenuous for most.

Recommended for those that are physically active and have some experience with hiking at least 5 hours in mountainous terrain with a backpack.

This trip well exceeded my expectations. The organization, sights, and fun were something I will always remember. Lori Anderson was a terrific leader, and Pora was a trustworthy guide. The games at night plus the food were exceptional!!! Green Edventures provided some nice surprises and perks to this trek. I highly recommend trusting them with your next excursion.

I just returned from a spectacular Green Edventures Iceland Mindfulness & Multi-Sport Women’s trip in June/July. This was my ninth trip with Green Edventures ... and it did not disappoint! Our trip leader, Emily, was wonderful as was our local guide/driver, Thora. Both are caring, personable and fun and do their best to make it a great trip for everyone! I just can’t say enough about the great itinerary. Iceland has so much to offer and this trip had a nice variety of things we did and places we saw including: many beautiful waterfalls, horseback riding, kayaking, hot springs/pools & cold plunges, churches, hiking trails, morning yoga, seals, puffins, eagles, birds/ducks, volcanic caters, snorkeling the Silfra Fissure, geysirs, Fridheimar Tomato Greenhouse/Lunch, local markets, glaciers, icebergs, Black Beach, basalt columns, sea stacks, Blue Lagoon and ice cream! We were blessed with great weather as well, but were prepared with our rain gear if needed! Our accommodations were all comfortable and unique with everything we needed. Our group was fantastic and there was lots of laughing! It was a perfect get away from everything at home for a short while to recharge and enjoy everything Iceland! I’d highly recommend any Green Edventures trips to anyone. Whether you are a solo traveler or have someone to travel with, this is the perfect solution! I’ve made many new friends on each trip I go on. All the GE trips are well-organized and well-planned. Iceland is a beautiful country!

I had a great time participating in the Iceland Women's Mindfulness and Multisport activity. The other travelers were nice, friendly and easy to get along with. The leader Emily was wonderful, well informed, familiar with the sites we visited and conversant. The guide Thora was best. She was knowledgeable, eager and proud to share her country with us. The itinerary was well thought out and executed. Mornings started with yoga followed by a different activity daily. We saw popular sites, hiked and saw so many waterfalls. Ninety percent of the activities were new to me and I succeeded in them all. We had plenty of access to thermal pools to rest our weary bodies at the end of the day. Accommodations were standard and food was plentiful.

I would highly recommend Green Edventures for this adventure, from superior staff, to well thought out planning. Everything fell in to place nicely. We did the 11 day Northern Curcuit, followed by a Safari with Mantangos Expeditions. I can’t say enough about the passion the crew has for their work, totally enjoyable and Ibwill never forget this adventure. Thank you to all the staff. Momma Zanzibar, aka Terri Cole.

I went on an amazing trip with Tara to Baja, Mexico in 2020. This was a dream trip for me being a wildlife lover. It was incredible to be able to swim with whale sharks and sea lions and get up close with gray whales. Camping on the beach was amazing. We had a great group of women and everyone vibed well and all of the tour guides including Tara, Alex and Chabello were so fun, friendly and helpful every step of the way. The food was great at the campsite and at the restaurants we got to try. When our trip plans initially got derailed waiting on a negative Covid test and we had to get a different flight, Tara did everything in her power to accommodate us and make sure we got to enjoy every part of the trip, including setting us up with another whale shark swimming tour after we had missed the initial one with the group, and she spent time waiting for us to finish before leaving for the airport. I definitely recommend Green Edventures, especially the Baja Mexico trip!

I just returned from the Wisconsin Women's Tour and couldn't have asked for a better trip! For me, the amount and type of activity were perfect. Who know there was so much to discover practically in my own backyard?
